Shattering Old Paradigms

Retailers, New Call of Cthulhu Game Night Kits Feature Alternate Art Cards

“It was from the artists and poets that the pertinent answers came, and I know that panic would have broken loose had they been able to compare notes.”

Retailers: New Season One 2013 Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Game Night Kits are on their way, and for the first time ever, they will include stunning alternate art cards to lure would-be investigators through your doors.

In addition to a deck box, two sets of wound tokens, and a promotional poster, each Call of Cthulhu kit contains eleven new alternate art cards, reincarnating two of the game’s classic cards, Cthulhu, Lord of R’lyeh (The Wailer Below, 64) and Laboratory Assistant (Core Set, 29).

Dark Dreams Given Form

“On the other side of the earth poets and artists had begun to dream of a strange, dank Cyclopean city whilst a young sculptor had moulded in his sleep the form of the dreaded Cthulhu.”

–H.P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu

In the world of H.P. Lovecraft’s eerie fiction, artists are often touched by dreams of the strange realms that lie just beyond the comprehension of most humanity. Their practiced sensitivity allows them to perceive the world around them differently than other people, but it also renders them vulnerable to the terrors that lie just beyond the edge of perception.

With the 2013 Season One Call of Cthulhu Game Night Kits, players will gain the opportunity to behold the terrors that these artists capture in all their horrific splendor. The alternate art versions of Cthulhu, Lord of R’lyeh and Miskatonic University’s Laboratory Assistant feature stunning new depictions of these classic characters and full-bleed graphic design that puts the art front and center like never before.

Mechanically, these cards are the same as those in the game’s Core Set and the Asylum Pack, The Wailer Below, and they will be tournament-legal. Slight variations in their production, however, mean that players using these cards must sleeve their decks with opaque sleeves.

What’s in the Season One 2013 Call of Cthulhu Game Night Kit?

Each Season One 2013 Call of Cthulhu Game Night Kit comes with materials built to support eight players as they investigate and confront the horrifying truths of reality:

  • Nine copies of Laboratory Assistant with alternate art by Magali Villeneuve*

  •
  • Two copies of Cthulhu, Lord of R’lyeh with alternate art by Stephen Somers*

  •
  • One Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game deck box featuring a dark ritual summoned into art by Brynn Metheney

  •
  • Two sets of acrylic wound tokens

  •
  • One 19.5” x 13.5” promotional poster daring players to confront their darkest fears at Game Night

*The ninth copy of the alternate art Laboratory Assistant and the second copy of Cthulhu, Lord of R’lyeh are intended as rewards for the Game Night organizer.
