Title: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 11 September 2009, 01:35:37 Okay, consider this one part interest-guaging thread, one part sign-up.
I'm looking at running a casual game here on the forums using the nifty new dice roller. I've not run a game in this style before, but neither am I going to be taking it too seriously, so as long as you can manage a short post every couple of days, it's all good. Game would be 4th ed dnd, setting...homebrew probably. Game would be at least a little tongue in cheek, so daft character concepts and builds would be perfectly fine. Any official matirial would be allowed, and homebrewed races (on a dm approval basis) also. If a race exists that lacks a playable race template, ask, and I may even be nice enough to provide one. :) Likewise with reasonable requests for unlikely equipment. Game would not be RP heavy, light hearted dungeon crawl fodder most likely, though I'd likely be running it VERY open, so if you want to try any tactic or route, you'll likely be allowed to have a shot at it, no matter how left of field. Thoughts? Any takers? Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: EvilGinger on 11 September 2009, 06:59:40 I would be up for it as would a certain even more evil relative from Newark when she has finished invading Crete
have to play with the dice roller as they hate me worse than dice. >:DGinger Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: Dat on 11 September 2009, 12:56:31 Will turns be as organised as D&D? Say in/out of combat the DM passes the roleplaying/combat turn to player 1 then to player 2 etc. This is because roleplaying stuff especially can be hard to do if someone wants to do something before someone else etc etc. I just hated the rush of posts of people desperately trying to roleplay conversations that were interrupted by another char buying fruit for 2 paragraphs.
Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: morgalahan on 11 September 2009, 13:50:09 dunno, I might be interested, but this is often a really tricky thing to pull off effectively.
Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 11 September 2009, 14:41:47 There will be no buying of fruit, my rodent chum. Unless you find a gnomish fruit-seller midway through the dungeon, or a vegan illithid smoothie bar at the center of the labyrinth.
You're right, btw, M. To my understanding this kind of play-by-post dnd does have a lot of inherant difficulties. Especially with things slowing down and stalling. But I'm going to keep it light, and not invest too much emotional attatchment to it. Just a bit of fun, with nothing really to lose. :) Evil - Said relatives would be more than welcome, and by the time they have crushed Crete beneath their iron-fisted-rule, I'm sure I'll have some actual details for them to get their teeth into. *plots* Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: EvilGinger on 12 September 2009, 06:16:36 I will start harassing her just as soon as her jack booted feet set foot back in this country the dust of a conquered Crete still on them. I will also point out that My great niece will be very upset that Theseus got at the Minator before she did and then died before she could explain to him quite how upset she was by this rash action.

As is anything else printed in the PHB's or Monster Manuals. :) First Official Titbits reguarding character generation; If it's official WOTC matirial, it's allowed. This includes all core player-available stuff, and the races presented in both monster manuals and one or two of the extra books (For example bladelings in the manual of the planes.) All Dragon matirial (ie, all 4e dragon, given that it's now wizards) is also fine. Templates are not for player use, but if there is something you'd like to model something that would normally be covered by DM only tinkering, ask me and I'll suggest compromises/builds to represent. Some homebrew matirial will be allowed. Mainly Races, as I have found one or two I will be officially making available. Again, requests are welcome. Anything not WOTC in origin needs approval first, but has a good chance of getting it. This includes odd equipment, but likely will not include whole classes. Maybe Paragon Paths. maaaybe. This will be Paragon Tier, I have decided, most likely. I shaln't give an exact level right now, but assume level 11. Characters do not have to be designed as a party, but neither do you have to not know each other. I'm leaving that all up to you, and will wrastle you into place later. You may, if you wish, have the character originate in any Established Setting you like, including but not limited to Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, etc. In addition, the generic setting and my own are available, but feel free to suggest extras. (Stick to either matirial plane equivalents or similar, however. For example, coming from the Feywild of any of the above is fine, but coming from Sigil is not.) Finally for now, Alignment; any are fine, but PVP should be kept to a moderate minimum. Infighting and bludgeoning each other is okay, but outright murder of fellow PC's will only get you in trouble. (Read - NO CHAOTIC-STUPID aligned characters. You're assumed to have survived 10 levels of play, you are, nice or otherwise, capable of some level of teamwork.) If they are Relevant, feel free to worship any DnD god you like, (depending perhaps on your chosen setting) or any other such entity or primal spirit. You've a week or two to mull this over, as I've no intention of starting before the return of the Squirrel, and am still idly plotting. :) Title: Re: Play-By-Post DnD, interested? Post by: EvilGinger on 15 September 2009, 07:10:02 I shall get on with plotting myself, I cant contact the Ginger Monster as she is still grinding Crete under he jackbooted foot.
