Lanneus Tuard – Paladin of Manannan Mac Lir Saeryn Ghent – Fighter – (Kalans Sister) Derek Summers – Fighter – Ex-squire to Taran We Seek Him Here, We Seek Him There Following on from our earlier spying attempts on the Governor, we now have firm evidence that the Governor is corrupt and is running things very much his own way and not in the interests of Barelin. Taran and Corinne fold to the mainland to a hotel room they have used many times before. An ambush awaits them. Many archers and heavily armed men wait in the corridor outside the room, somewhere there is a hidden mage nearby having cast an anti magic shell to prevent escape. The two cousins fight for their life and Corinne carries an unconscious Taran on her shoulder and escapes through the window. It would seem the Governors arm reaches far. The pair recover and seek out the marshal and gain another audience with the Chief Justice. She suggests we take matters into our own hands and bring the Governor to justice with no mention of him being alive to stand trial. Our first attempt is trying to capture him when he meets with a mistress at a hotel in the capital. The two thieves get inside the room and get a magical rope entangled around him but he manages to summon some warriors who slice through the rope and free him. The others outside of the room have beaten their way through the bodyguards and burst into the room just in time to see the governor race through a magic portal. Half the party follow and we are in an underground room probably below his palace and facing more guards and spellcasters, by the time we have battled through them the Governor has made his escape. We get out of there and make another plan. We attempt to scry the palace and find the location of the Governor, we believe he wears an amulet which makes it impossible to locate him. Knowing that his private quarters are warded against magical transportation decide on a location just outside his rooms in a corridor. Arriving halfway down the corridor we immediately spot armed guards and attack them, after dealing with them we encounter more guards and spellcasters in the next room. We decide, after taking heavy casualties to get out of there as it is too well guarded. Whilst back at the keep we get a message that Sharin Cal, our friendly head druid was urgently looking for us, one of her assistants is missing. Taran gets a cold feeling inside of him, his betrothed Jillian is one of her assistants. Sure enough when we meet up with Sharin Cal she confirms that it is Jillian that is missing, all the scrying attempts point to her being abducted by hooded figures, almost certainly the work of the Governors men. We locate Jillian in a dungeon chained to a wall. Even though we are sure this will be a trap we must go after her, as one the party are behind Taran. We are fairly sure we will have to fight our way out of there as the area will likely be warded against magical attempts to escape. Having reinforced ourselves with every defensive spell we can think of we transport ourselves through the magic mirror directly into Jillians cell, she is weak and get some tender words and healing from Taran, her chains are quickly unlocked as is the door to the cell. We hear voices outside saying to get ready. There is nothing for it but to run out and cause mayhem. Corinne and Krachtig lead off with lightning bolts and cones of cold respectively, the warriors then rush to confront the armed guards reeling from the magic attacks in the corridors. Galvish heads one way while Barrigan, Saeryn, Lanneus and Derek all head the other way. Galvish has to retreat after being hit by archers and Taran runs to assist and holds the corridor while whittling through the mass of armed men, assisted by Krachtigs illusionary magic. The others are wading through the guards but cannot prevent a lever being pulled which sounds like collapsing rock, this might well mean we are sealed in here. While they are finishing off the last of the guards Taran has finally come face to face with the Governor and exchanges blows with him, a mage behind him launches several fireballs down the corridor severely scorching Krachtig and causing him to retreat into one of the cells. A disintegration beam from Corrinne takes out the pesky mage and when Taran takes one blow too many and lurches over unconscious she lets fly with a barrage of arrows and kills the governor. The wounded are tended to and we find that on the lower level are more prisoners but more importantly our folding spell works there. We leave with all the prisoners and the corpse of the Governor. |
