Title: A Long Time Ago, In A Galaxy Far, Far Away...
Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 15 July 2010, 05:15:21
So, Andy's fabled Star-Wars game finally hits character generation tomorrow. I am sticking with my idea from so long ago, a Trandoshan of some sort.

nice artwork of them... actually makes them look like people =P

I'm certainly looking forward to the game myself. Arkanian Jedi here :D

Love the outfit. Generally, they seem pretty awesomely retro sci-fi, actually.
In fact, they remind me slightly of something I came up with for a freeform sci-fi thing years ago. Only mine were more pastel shaded amongst other things. have a grotty old sketch of one up on my DevianTart (http://mister-cope.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dgsmz3), actually.

It looks pretty damn bad in comparison, and I'm only vaguely aware what I was rambling on about in the description, but I was pretty pleased with it at the time.

Yes that day has finally come!

We now have a crew for the as yet unamed ship.

Tiki's Trandoshan Soldier (with jet pack)
Morgalahan's Arkanian Jedi (with a hint of lightning)
Zarniwoop's Khil Scout (with an actual name! - Tarlo Mallinor)

Who else is wanting to join this game?

The next session will be Thursday 29th July @ 19:30 in the Coopers

Those interested please PM me and we can sort out character creation.

Quick Question, by the way. Working on linked backstories, but need to check the time period. I know we're talking KOTORish, and after the games...

But are we talking a couple of years after? (As in, characters may have easily served in the Mandalorian Wars under Revan) or a couple of hundred years later?

The game is set a few months after the second game 3,500YYB (years before the Battle of Yavin)

So serving with Revan is easily possible (as that was only between 4 and 6 years earlier).

The Mandelorian Wars were between 10 and 15 years before the adventure.

I'll probably post a rough pic of my character before I come up with the name >.< For some reason her name is eluding me somewhat.

Anyway, she'll look cool enough, have a sort of look planned out for her already.

And woot on the relative recent past history. Makes planning story much simpler, if less cool than Tiki's plan for if we were playing up to a hundred years after the Mando war ^_^

I'll help Dust make a character if thats OK. Just let me know if there's anything needed or not allowed.

I look forward to seeing a pic of your character.

By the way what Force Powers did you choose for her?

I don't mind you helping Dust build a character.  The only limit is species (no Yuuzhan Vong; species like Wookiees, Quarren, Mon Calamari, Gungan and Ewoks are extremely rare and would need a back story explaining how they left there homeworld)

Hey Arnu

I chose Force Lightning, Force Slam, Surge and Move Object.

As for one thing I want to debate with you. Last night I installed KotOR one and played it for a bit. One of the first npcs you get in your party is a wookie (Zaalbar), and you visit the wookie homeworld in kotor. So... they are common enough, even if only as slaves. Why couldnt someone play a wookie? An ex-slave would work well enough =P

Hiya Morgalahan

I will finish typing up your force power list ready for the game.

Wookiees are playable in my game but what I said was that they were limited (as they have no official status in the Republic - as they are not yet condsidered sensients)

Ewoks, Mon Calamari, Quarrens & Gungans all have had little or no contact with other species in the galaxy.

Can I ask what talents & feats everyone chose so I can make a cheat sheet.

(Zarni I have your character sheet so I have them already)

Its true, wookies aren't sentient. I used to trap them in the wild then take them back to my kennels and breed them as pets for various high profile clients including certain members of the jedi council i couldn't possibly mention.

It was always messy when one escaped from it cage though... limbs everywhere.

Okay, so as I was walking home thursday night the idea for my character finally came together.

I'm expanding the scientist part to be most of the concept, jedi scientist who's interested in exploring the use of the force as a scientific tool, mostly for uses with genetic experimentation and augmentation. Arkanian's are racial geneticists, they believe it's their duty to 'better' other races when they can. This may not be the case all the time for my character, since she grew up in a jedi temple as a padawan, but she has a touch of this.

During her days at the temple, she was always more interested in learning the ways of the force, and in devouring as much knowledge from the archives as possible. She learned light saber combat as all jedi do, and while being proficient in it, she hasnt focused on it. Her interest lay in the uses of the force in telekinesis, and as a tool for healing. She studied medical science when she was able to, especially once her intial training was more complete and she had more time for it.

Once the war with the mandalorians began, she was moved by Revan's ideas, and followed Revan into war. She was technically still a padawan at this stage, and disobeyed her master (as yet undecided, DM may create) and joined the other Revanchists. She saw combat, but was more comfortable using the force directly in battle, only resorting to her lightsaber if drawn into melee fights. She would also attempt to save lives where she could, always believing that she had no choice but to try, since she was able. She would often dash into combat after spotting someone in trouble, help them, bring them back behind lines, and heal them if there were no other medics around, at the expense of her own health. Because of this tendency, she was well liked by the soldiers she fought with.

After a time, as Revan's tactics grew more brutal, as did those of the mandalorians, she grew depressed with the loss of life around her. After the genocide of the Cathar (a time when her anger over the tragedy nearly consumed her) she determined to leave the war and take no further part in it. She mastered her feelings, and when Revan and Malak were to go off into the unknown reaches of the galaxy in pursuit of some mystery, she stayed behind. She returned to the jedi temple to seek forgiveness for her actions.

(still fuzzy on timelines and events after this... I can also alter what I've written if need be)

She'll be the team medic, since she's a scientist/medical doctor with Vital Transfer. I can't give her Treat Injury, as it's not a Jedi class skill and I have no feats to spare.

That sounds good Morgalahan

She would have been about 14 at the time of Revan's going to war against the Mandalorians (not impossible if she looked older or you could make her a couple of years older).

I will come up with a Jedi Master for you (I will sort out a name soon)

Cojo the Hornet, Trandoshan Bounty Hunter.

Vivid green scales and cold, electric blue eyes. Cojo is tall and lithe, with long strong limbs and a sharklike grin. The colour of his eyes marks him out as, if not quite 'high caste', at least someone who has had a vaguely auspicious birth. Consequently, he was humoured and treated well to a degree that not all Trandoshan children could count on. He has grown to be an adventurous and open minded individual with many unorthadox opinions and a strong set of very personal beliefs. Seeking to see more of the Universe, Cojo embraced the traditional emphasis on 'Jagganath Points' and the sacred hunt of the Scorekeeper as a way of finding a way to break free of the harsh confines of his home planet. He lacks any real conviction in his people's beliefs, but observes the main points on a purely cultural rather than genuinely religious basis.

Like many of his kind, he made his way in the Galaxy as a Bounty Hunter. The thrill of danger and the exotic locations it took him to appealed to him immensely, but it very nearly went horribly wrong during the early days of the Mandalorian War. Cojo, hard up and needing the credits, took a bounty that led him to a world on the front lines. A particularly vicious fugitive (A Wookiee Madclaw and leader of a small but budding criminal organisation) had gone to ground in the inhospitable jungle region that comprised the planets no-man's land. To avoid attention, he left his ship under the control of his astromech droid and night-dived from low orbit to avoid attracting the attention of either military force presently performing manouvers on the planet. Firing his Jetpacks at the last possible moment, he successfully managed to drop in unnoticed, but things soon went bad from there.

Whilst approaching the Wookiee Crime-lord's secret Jungle base, he was intercepted by a small patrol of Mandalorian warriors. The ensuing firefight was enough to warn the Wookiee Madclaw and even as the Mandalorians managed to pin the Trandoshan Bounty Hunter down, he saw the Wookiee's fighter taking off* from the compound. It was bad enough that the hunt had been unnsuccessful, but were the Mandalorians to take him alive, he would be unnable to return to his home, and all of his existing allies and contacts on Dosha would give him the cold shoulder. The only option seemed to be to escape the situation, or die trying, and that wasn't looking very likely.

He was saved from this Fate-Worse-Than-Death by the intervention of a small republic strike-force, sent to deny the Mandalorian scouts further intel and secure the Jungle Compound as a forward base. Forced out of position by engaging the Trandoshan, the Repiblic strike-force was able to make short work of the Mandalorians and the few Pirates, Smugglers and thugs left in the Wookiee crime-lord's base were quickly dealt with. Injured but un-captured, Cojo gratefully swore a life-debt to the optimistic young Jedi leading the team, and has worked along-side her throughout the rest of the Mandalorian Wars, Jedi Civil War and the intervening period of tense, dangerous time since.

He still does the occaisional bit of Bounty Hunting on the side, though. Pays well to keep in practice, after all.

*Insult to injury, the Wookiee escaped from the planet by stealing Cojo's own Ship, a heavily modified Dynamic Class Freighter named the Spiral Dragon.

SO. That was a good session.
but with the sounds of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEivAFDV0ic) ringing in my ears, (One of three tunes that I consider to be Cojo's theme-tune, along with Green Hornet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvoQF0I9Y3g&feature=related) and Canned Heat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2N9uQdw8m8)), I can't help but feel a little triumphant. We failed to rescue the Jedi insurgent, we failed to reach any kind of decision as to what to do with her, and have lost any real chance of the element of suprise.

But it still somehow feels like kicking ass and taking names.

Perhaps, just perhaps it's because I actually think that what I told him really is the case. He's a small fish, and I know it even if Brejak (sp?) doesn't want to admit it to himself. Perhaps because he doesn't want to admit it.

He's going to come out of this badly. In a very real sense, it's already over.

We've won.
He just doesn't know it yet.

Also, Cojo would like to make it known to Dr Ashka Renn that he's very sorry and could she please not hurt him too much.  ;)

 Warning

The Coopers is closed till 2pm today & then open for a WAKE. I would suggest that it would be a bit insensitive to try to run a game their in the middle of it.

I think we should either reschedule or adjourn to the Devi or similar

I also cant make it as I am on a catching up kick at the moment so will crash just before we are due to meet if past experience holds.
