Title: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Arnu on 25 March 2020, 22:02:46 Hi
We are here tonight to discuss possibilities and availabilities for online gaming for our group Andie Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 25 March 2020, 22:04:42 We are. I wonder how many of us, though? :)
Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Arnu on 25 March 2020, 22:09:14 I know Tombwalker and Co are interested.
The only issue I have is I am still working (considered a key worker) and my shifts could change at short notice. Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 25 March 2020, 22:10:36 I'm back at work on Saturday, but so far I'm just (more or less) doing my normal hours. The work itself will be a little different, but the shifts so far are normal.
Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Arnu on 25 March 2020, 22:16:34 It is a very strange at the moment (I have been moved to a different site to help them out).
Several options have been raised that we could use. Roll 20 Discord Facebook have a 5 way video messenger Does anyone have any knowledge of how these work or any other suggestions we can try. Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Tombwalker on 25 March 2020, 22:19:17 my Alex seems quite fluent with roll20 and discord. And at the moment, or soon, Roll20 will be in maintenance mode for a couple of hours. Lol
Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Arnu on 25 March 2020, 22:29:06 Roll 20 seems to be the popular one.
I know there is a you tube video talking about it. If Alex knows it, then that could be a help getting us started. How does Roll 20 work (is it audio, video or text based?) BTW Andy & Cam are struggling to log in at the moment Title: Re: Wednesday Night Game Online Gaming Discussion Post by: Snakes in the Tiki Lounge on 25 March 2020, 22:51:33 Roll 20 has, iirc, the benefit of being designed for the exact task. Never used it, but I think it has all manner of RP helpful stuff built in. Integrated character sheets, map support, etc.
Looking at this quick guide (https://wiki.roll20.net/Roll20_Crash_Course) it looks like it supports voice OR text chat, which could be a plus if we can all figure out one of the two options. Looks like if we are going that route, whoever is running a game will need to swot up on the app itself, but it does have a lot going for it in terms of features. Discord I'm passingly familiar with, but it's got little to recommend it beyond being a serviceable text chat thingy. I think it has some kind of voice capabilities as well, but I've never even considered trying them out. It's a step up from the old IRC clients in the sense that it's persistent and the chat itself doesn't go away I guess, but you'd be doing everything else off-app. Video chat is no benefit to me, as I don't have a camera for that. I mean, I may be having to improvise a little even if we go audio, but I have options that should work for that if necessary. EDIT - If it comes to it, do we have enough of us with some way to do voice chat? That solution requires hardware. I'm hoping I can get my gaming headset working with the desktop, as I've done so before with an older and crappier one. What about the rest of you? Text is a good fall-back option, but it's a lot slower even if you are used to typing a fair bit. https://discord.gg/RdZ9k5 Audio quality is Not high on Roll 20, has good tools but splitting it between discord speeds things up, apparently. Ed: Just had Alex making me jump out my skin when discord kicked in. Nice and clear audio even with my knacked headset. Heading to Roll20 now. |
