The Good: After a worrying hour waiting for the new bar people to arrive, the beer was excellent, and at a good price. The Town Hall staff were helpful and got the opening times right. The Bad: We were mysteriously 50 people down on Saturday, resulting in a thumping loss. The Ugly: Our food providers suffered from the drop in numbers, and left early on Sunday, resulting in no tea being available for the many keeping off the beer before driving home. And the excellent beer providers have lost the gig at the Town Hall, we would be back to £4 a pint Coke and official complaints at people bring their own. Finally, our usual date was not held for us and has already been taken by someone else. The upshot of all this is that there will not be another Beer & Pretzels – at least we made it to 30 years, which is not a bad run. Autumn B&P is also a thing of the past, as the Three Queens Hotel is no longer available, and neither is the Meadowside Sports Centre nearby. Many thanks to all of you who have made it such an enjoyable experience all these years, especially those who have travelled from afar and have been loyal supporters. Reach for the vinyl and put on a copy of George Harrison's "All things must pass". |
