I am looking at running a Star Trek RPG in the new year (on the Thursday Nights - Fortnightly)

The setting is 2380 (2 years after the last Next Generation Film)

This is set aboard the Luna Class Ship the USS Enceladus.

The Commanding Officer is Captain Richard Harleck

I am looking to find out who is interested and what role on the ship they would like to fullfill

The following are available

First Officer (Rank Lieutenant-Commander)
Operations Manager (Rank Lieutenant)
Chief Engineer (Rank Lieutenant)
Chief of Security (Rank Lieutenant)
Chief Science Officer (Rank Lieutenant)
Chief Medical Officer (Rank Lieutenant)
Ship's Counsllor/Diplomatic Officer (Rank Lieutenant Junior Grade)
Senior Flight Control Officer (Rank Lieutenant Junior Grade)

I can create the stats if people want to let me know the character backgrounds they want.

The available species are:

Human
Andorian
Bajoran
Betazoid
Bolian
Cardassian
Centuaran
Ferengi
Klingon
Tellerite
Vulcan

First come first served on the crew postings

Couple of posts I'm interested in, including but maybe not limited to the Science and Security Officer positions.

However, just a quick question; Operations Manager doesn't immediately ring any bells. Roughly what would that entail, and/or examples of Canon star-trek characters who've held the role? The rest are all familiar enough.

'Operations Manager' smells to much like real life  Tongue

I could be very tempted with Chief Engineer, however it is a role I seam to be playing alot in RPG's currently.
or maybe Chief Medical Officer - human female red hair etc (you can work the rest out  Grin  )

Chief of security is dead mans shoes, so should be avoid. (or is that only in original trek  Wink )

Answering my own question; See Data and Harry Kim apparently. Will probably pass on that, though good explanation here; http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Operations_officer

[edit]
I believe I should like to take the Science Officer role, if no-one has called that, yet. Will PM breif character concept shortly.

OK here is the Crew so far

First Officer
Operations Manager
Chief Engineer - Frog (What Species?)
Chief of Security
Chief Science Officer - Tiki (Cardassian) - Second Officer
Chief Medical Officer - Oskar (Vulcan)
Ship's Counsllor/Diplomatic Officer
Senior Flight Control Officer

Zarniwoop both Chief of Security & Senior Flight Control Officer are both available (and you can choose either of those species)

Tiki you are right that Operations Manager is the post that Data and Ensign Harry ("why won't anyone promote me") Kim

Oskar a Vulcan Cheif Medical Officer sounds logical to me.

I can pregenerate the characters and then we can have a character tweeking session.  (if everyone wants to tell me their characters background I can pregen from there)

As I mentioned today, I would love to join in but I start a course in January with lectures on Thursday and Tuesday nights, so I think I will be a rare visitor for a while (at least when the terms are running).

Otherwise I'd have loved to be either an Andorian or Ferengi - wouldn't mind which role - Andorian would have a preference for the Security Officer role I guess and the Ferengi for either a Flight Control Officer or (more dubiously) Engineering Officer.

If I have a free Thursday one time when you're running the game I will drp you line, and see if there might be a cameo role you'd like filled - I don't want to disappear all together.

Whitefire

If you want to come up with a character (may be a mission specialist who is on detached duty or a junior officer like a Transporter Chief or a tactical officer or a Mission Ops officer etc.) Then you could come and go as available.

Just let me know your characters background and I can put the stats together (most of the game is playing the personality of the character rather than the stats)

Erm, interested in a ferengi in some kind of position. Would like to know how a ferengi would get money in a cashless society tho. Can he replicate it? Do replicators have a limited allowance like a broadband download cap? - Will the sessions end with everything back the way it was at the start?

Ferengi in the federation (there are a few of them now since Grand Nagus Rom) tend to barter goods or make deals with contacts outside of the federation.

Many Ferengi join Starfleet because they want to escape the ruthless world of Ferengi business

Latinum can't be replicated which is what makes it a valuable currancy.  Latinum is a silver liquid that is kept in a worthless gold container (in three demoninations, slips, strips and bars).

Which of the available positions would you like?

First Officer
Operations Manager
Chief of Secuirty (Zarniwoop is considering this post)
Ship's Counsellor/Diplomatic Officer
Senior Flight Control Officer (Zarniwoop is considering this post)

If you are wanting one of the two post that Zarniwoop is decided between then can you drop him a PM.

I can pregenerate the stats for your chosen character.  As the game is more about your actions and the way you handle different situations that what special abilities you may have.

I just need to know the following:

Name of the character
Species and gender
Posting on the ship
Early years (Childhood background)
Academy Life (What did your character study at the Academy)
Career History (Where have you surved and what post did you hold prior to the USS Enceladus)
Life Events (has your character faced any note worth life events)

oh god, this does bring to mind my random character thought of a few months ago, what would it be like to be half vulcan half betazoid? Able to feel emotions but not experience them, if that makes sense. Meh
