The Search for Skywalker

Announcing the Second Force Pack for STAR WARS (TM): The Card Game

“That is the system. And I’m sure Skywalker is with them. Set your course for the Hoth system. General Veers, prepare your men.”

–Darth Vader, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of The Search for Skywalker, the second Force Pack from The Hoth Cycle for Star Wars™: The Card Game!

In The Search for Skywalker, the Rebels and their allies look to reinforce their position at Echo Base, getting their shields up online and adjusting their gear to the cold. Meanwhile, the Imperial Navy deploys its fleet and sets course for the ice planet. The sixty cards of The Search for Skywalker introduce two copies each of five complete objective sets to permit greater deck customization and carry players deeper into The Hoth Cycle as light and dark side forces prepare for all-out war.

Inspired by the early scenes of The Empire Strikes Back, The Search for Skywalker expands the universe of Star Wars: The Card Game with new characters, vehicles, Star Destroyers, and Rebel defenses. Meanwhile, the dark side’s Scum and Villains mass on Tatooine at Jabba’s palace where they receive orders to pursue new bounties.

Sensors Are Placed

In Star Wars: The Card Game, the dark side wins by advancing its Death Star dial to “12,” and it can accelerate the dial’s advancement by destroying light side objectives. In The Search for Skywalker, the Rebel Alliance gains some new tricks to defend itself from the dark side’s onslaught.

As lead developer Nate French mentioned in his introduction to The Hoth Cycle, each of the cycle’s Force Packs develops the Battle of Hoth:

“A number of objectives in the cycle have the Hoth trait. A number of light side effects, like that on the Hoth Operations card, are dependent upon the light side player controlling more Hoth objectives than his opponent. This encourages the light side player to both establish and defend his base on Hoth.”

The Search for Skywalker allows the light side to select from three new Hoth objectives, including Sensors Are Placed (The Search for Skywalker, 203). The centerpiece of a set focused on defense, Sensors Are Placed grants light side players advance knowledge of the cards their opponent bids during critical edge battles and partners with cards that provide deep synergies for a deck centered around the Hoth trait.

  • While it’s under your control, the enhancement, Echo Base (The Search for Skywalker, 205), adds an extra point of damage capacity to all your Hoth objectives and adds one to your total count of Hoth objectives.

  •
  • Echo Defenders (The Search for Skywalker, 204) are cost-efficient Troopers who provide valuable tactics icons and gain unit damage icons equal to the number of Hoth objectives you command. While you have a firm command of Hoth, these Troopers can take on any enemy unit.

  •
  • The Echo Base Shield Generator (The Search for Skywalker, 206) can shield units and objectives, permitting light side players key tactical advantages during critical moments.

  •
  • Finally, the last card in the set, First Marker (The Search for Skywalker, 207), renders your Hoth objective immune to damage from Vehicle units, safeguarding it from your opponent’s AT-ATs and Star Destroyers.

Still, will all these powerful defenses prove resilient enough to buy your Rebels time to launch their attacks against the forces of the dark side and prevent them from using the Death Star to establish control of the galaxy?

Set Your Course for Hoth

The cards from the Sensors Are Placed objective set illustrate the way in which objective sets in Star Wars: The Card Game work together to develop larger themes and the way that the Force Packs from The Hoth Cycle establish the ice planet as a crucial battleground in the war for the fate of the galaxy.

Look for Sensors Are Placed and four other objective sets to give greater shape to the Battle of Hoth and the whole Star Wars universe when The Search for Skywalker commences early in 2013!
