At the end of the last episode of the vendetta I suggested introducing our Esteemed Crazyfrog to proper wargaming and on consideration I would like to offer that challenge formally and take him to a Corner of Hell a lovely little set of skirmish rules for WWII by the HLBS company which will run a platoon level action brilliantly which we can play then swap sides and replay.

I will be using 15mm figures as I look like I will have enough left when I have done the FOW orders I am in process off at the moment and I can paint the spares up at the same time.

I will provide all the figures scenery etc.

Do you accept the challenge Esteemed frog?

Scenario for the game will be a meeting engagement between a British motorised infantry platoon and a German Panzer grenadier platoon during the Battle for France in 1940

The rule set used will he HBLS's A Corner of Hell

and the scenario is as follows

Quote
German
Our forces have broken through the French line and mobile forces are punching deep into the French rear areas. The French will be attempting to bring up reserves and form a new line and will do so by attempting to hold choke points . It is also likely that British troops will be moved into the area to reinforce them. It is vital that our mobile forces use their speed to move forward and take as many of these choke points as possible and hold them until the slower foot slogers catch up.

The 3rd Panzer Grenadier Company has been tasked with taking and holding the crossings of the Surren canal at Ambrevile on the other side of the Petit Rhone. The majority of Second Panzer company has taken up positions just this side of the crossings of the Petit Rhone to the north east and the 3rd Panzer grenadier company has split into its component platoons with each being rushed to take individual crossing points with the first platoon and a platoon of light Panzer's from second Panzer company going to the main crossing point at Ambrevile to the west where there is a major crossing and where it is expected the French will attempt to build a strong point and or the British bring reinforcements through. The 3rd platoon which suffered serious casualty's during the Polish campaign has been deployed to the west to hold the smaller crossings at the villages of Embile and  Burt Thamel

As Dawn breaks the 3rd Platoons vehicles are on the road and in sight their designated objectives.

British
To the north the French line has given way at several points east of the Petit Rhone the coherent French forces are attempting to stage a fighting retreat to form a new line on the Petit Rhone but it is feared that lead elements of the German breakthrough have passed that line already though aerial reconnaissance indicated that the majority of the German forces are on foot and still east of the Petit Rhone. French reserves also mostly on foot are moving up to wards the Petit Rhone but will probably not be in time to form a line there before the Germans cross it in strength. As a consequence of this the available British forces 1st battalion Cumberland light infantry has been tasked to form a line along the Surren canal by securing as many of its crossing points as possible as quickly as possible. 2nd company along with the battalions universal carrier platoon has been sent forward to do this with the company spreading out to cover as many as possible once they are secured the rest of the battalion will move up to reinforce them along with the battalions supporting troop of  infantry tanks. The battalion is then to hold this line until French reserves move forward and a proper counter attack can be mounted. In the event of the French stabilising the front on the Petit Rhone then the battalion will move froward to that line in support but division considers this unlikely.

The 3rd Platoon has been detailed to hold the crossings of the Surren Canal at he villages of Embile and  Burt Thamel  as these are reportedly the least favourable crossings for armoured operations the platoon has not been allocated any of the Battalion's antitank gun battery or other Support. These remaining with the 1st platoon allocated to follow up the Battalions carrier platoon's securing of Ambreville.

As Dawn breaks the 3rd platoon is in its trucks on the road racing towards the crossings of the Surren Canal at Embile and  Burt Thamel.
