Had a truly splendid time despite not playing either of the games mentioned above & not winning any of the excellent games we played. Which where

Wiz War

a good fast game of magical murder & thievery

Small world

which is every bit as good as every one who has played it says it is lovely game very nicely crafted and full of flavour

There are some very good reviews here

http://www.spiritgames.co.uk/single.php?menu=2&sub=4&game=4380

Fustenfield

a game with elements of a lot of other games blended into an evil mix with rather a killer twist in the endgame.

& I sure there was another game which I have forgotten as usual.

Very much to be recommended as an event hope to see you at the next one.

Well I started the day by arriving a little bit late but with the shop full of people. Found Chris out the back having bagsied the large table there (excellent).

As none of us was completely sure if anyone else was coming we kicked off with something quick and easy to get us started:

This is normally quite a cutthroat game where at least one of the wizards ends up biting the dust. However, due to the way the cards fell the spells where mostly defensive , so apart from a few spats it was mostly grab and run with Chris managing to win getting the 2nd treasure home. He was helped by Simon hitting him hard whilst Chris had a defence that meant he just got pushed back for each point of damage thereby aiding his escape to victory.

We then decided to get out SmallWorld as Simon had not played and I had not played it in a long while so wanted to try it again. This is a beautifully crafted game with some fabulous artwork and hilarious Race/Power combo's. The only thing is we were all convinced the artist does not like elves as they look very camp in the artwork. The 3-player board is very cramped so after the first turn most of the spaces were occupied so there was a lot of bumping off of other players races going on. We all had to decline one or more races during the game as one-by-one they ran out of steam or just did not have enough strength left to add more score. After much banter and beating up of each other the final outcome was: Simon: 93, Paul: 101 and Chris: 128 (are you seeing a pattern here yet!  Lips Sealed )

We then broke out Pergamon which is a new game in my collection I had not yet had the chance to play. After looking through the rules, which were not too complicated but made more sense once we got the first round or two completed. The game is essential about competing for funds to dig for precious artifacts to then exhibit to the public, each round there is an amount of money available, the exact amount is unknown but the card backs give a clue, so each player has to bid for how much they want and how deep they want to try and dig. The money is revealed and distributed from right to left on the track. The first player will normally get what they want and the rest get paid until the money is gone, this means sometimes the last players gets more than they wanted or sometimes less or even none. Players in the same turn order then go digging, try and assemble an exhibit which they can put in the museum to score points or store the items for another turn. Play continues over 12 rounds with specific rounds scoring for the exhibits in the museum, each new exhibit placed in there bumps all the others one down the score track as people always like the new stuff better. This was actually a really fun game the mechanics are quite simple but getting all the things in place to score well proved tricky. A good fun game which I will certainly have to bring again to a Wed/Sat event. Final Scores: Simon:23, Paul:25 and Chris:41 (You seeing the pattern now!!  Tongue)

Finally we got out Furstenfeld which I had forgotten how much I like this game, but just not managed to get it to the table in some time. Players are cultivating their holdings to sell raw materials to one of the many breweries who demands fluctuate from round to round. As play progresses players add buildins to provide additional help in their cause or they improve their yield in particular crops. Ultimately players are trying to gain enough money to start building their own palace but this takes away some of their valuable land so this has to be times and financed carefully. The winner is the first to complete their Palace. The costs of the palace sections increases as more get built so getting in early whilst they are cheaper is always good. Surprisingly and luckily the universe hasn't collapsed today as I managed to win this despite it being my own game! both the others were only 1 palace piece left to build with Chris technically making 2nd place on a tie break.

Thanks to everyone for a really fun day and look forward to doing this all again next month. In the meantime I will see everyone again wed night for some more fun gaming.

Enjoy
