Deathwatch Custom Chapters Table of Content The Grey Angels
those who hold the line
WHY WAS THE CHAPTER FOUNDEDAll the records which survive suggest that it was due to strategic prognostication
WHEN WAS THE CHAPTER FOUNDEDThis is unknown as the oldest records the chapter has date from the beginning of first century of the 40th millennium but all of these suggest that it pre-existed that date but had recently recovered form a terrible disaster the exact details of which have been lost or perhaps deliberately erased
GENE SEEDProgenitor apparently the Space wolves but possibly from the central store of this material rather than by direct donation the gene seed seems to have been altered possibly to breed out the flaws in that of the
Space Wolves, though it has been done sufficiently long ago that further drift seems to have happened.
CHAPTER DEMEANOURUphold the Emperors honour
GENE SEED DEFICIENCIES Missing Betchers gland & a faulty Progenoid gland which matures very quickly & has to be removed otherwise it will quickly kill the Marine it will still function as the method of passing on the Gene seed of the chapter but has to be stored at the chapters fortress monastery in stasis
CHAPTER FLAWWe stand alone, the chapter is wary of contact with others & makes very few friends the reasons for this are unclear & can be assumed to be to do with the unrecorded "terrible disaster" whatever that was.
CHAPTER CHARACTERISTIC MODIFIERS Warriors of this chapter undergo a more stringent hypo conditioning program than those of other Chapters of Space Marine & gains +5 willpower & intelligence
FIGURES OF LEGEND & Their DEEDSThe founders of this chapter are like all of its ancient history a complete blank & all the current chapter heroes date to the semi mythic period between the "terrible disaster" & the recovery of the chapter.
Master of Sanctity Harrak the first recorded hero of the new era he was responsible for helping to reorganise the recovering chapter though the earliest records of his deeds where recorded at least a century after they occurred possibly more & some are in a document called the meditations which seems to be as much allegorical as historical. His greatest surviving deed is the slaying of the "Lord of the Spire" on Aluris IV in single combat at the hight of the purging of the chaos nest there.
Captain Colonel Urakis Molexis Captain of the chapters 6th company whilst of Garrison duty at the chapters home world when it was caught in the edge of an Ork Waaggh about four hundred years ago & not only formed a close bond with the home planets Planetary Defence Force & lead it with the company to utterly smash the invasion, but to go on to relive several of the surrounding worlds also beset with Orks . This became a crusade which drove the Orks from the sector & it is reckoned he would have become chapter master had not his Command Rhino not been stepped on by an OrK Gargunt in the later stages of the campaign. From him dates the tradition of commissioning all sergeants and above in Grey Angels in their home worlds PDF & the there regular joint exercises.
HOME WORLD This is a fairly unexceptional Civilized world & it is quite possible even likely that it is not the Chapters original home world, & it also recruits form a wide range of other mostly fairly primitive worlds in the sector & adjacent ones. The Home world is semi tropical and would if not populated and widely cultivated by covered with tropical jungle. The Grey Angels keep their distance form the populace & allow them to run their own affairs and generally only interact with them on the regular joint exercise they hold with the worlds planetary defence force (PDF) and on occasion cooperating with the training of high command officers of the PDF & in the raising of the occasional Imperial guard regiment the last one of which was raised over fifty years ago.
The Grey Angels fortress Monastery is situated in the only home worlds still largely wilderness areas amidst a low mountain range covered with thick jungle. Also hidden by this dense tract of woodland is the remains of the settlements of the worlds first human inhabitants who where long extinct by the time the current colonists arrived early in the imperial age. The rest of the world is very fertile farmland with a fairly small number of largest cities and huge automated farms growing vast quantities of food for hive worlds and forge worlds in an adjacent sector.
ORGANIZATION This follows the codex fairly closely given that the Chapter is mechanised & favoured combat tactics is to launch lightning fast striker operation's both with and without close cooperation with Imperial Guard & PDF formations
COMBAT DOCTRINE The Grey Angels favour speed of operations over all other tactics but being conversant with all areas of the codex they can be very flexible but fast attacks or counter-attacks are what they excel at & will use given the opportunity. They are also known to use guard tactical doctrines with which they are familiar when the situation seems to require them
BELIEFSOpenly the Battle brothers of the Grey Angels revere the emperor and to a lesser extent their unknown ancestors the memory of whom was lost in the "great disaster" Though strangely they will not display the emperors icons on their war gear lest they become damaged & hence some how impure or bring discredit on them as with most things Grey Angels will not talk to outsiders about their beliefs
CHAPTER STATUSThe chapter is currently some what understrength & will only deploy four field companies at any given time it should recover soon but has been heavily engaged over the last century & considers it wise to protect its strength
CHAPTER FRIENDS Its home world PDF with whom it cooperates and trains regularly.
CHAPTER ENEMIES None especially the chapter has served against most of the Empires foes & finds none of them more hateful than any other
HERALDRYGrey Angels wear black under armour Jump suits with an inverted shield on the left shoulder this is divided into a black half & a white half over lain by a lighting strike in reversed colours. The shield is edged in a colour which depends on branch or speciality there are a lot of these and the divisions seem to be quite complex however the Grey Angels are not talking about this either. Their Armour is Codex grey with a black and white Right shoulder pad divided back & front into black & white halves edged with branch colour crossed by a lightning bolt in reversed colours. The other shoulder pad caries the marines number company squad & position.
Chapter officers who are not part of a squad are marked with a company number & a position number
