Smile and Wave Boys, Smile and Wave

« on: 30 June 2008, 20:22:32 »

I've started this so I can keep track of the main details for all Arkham Games I've played in, future reports will be made in full reports.
There are a few games I cannot fully remember (I must have been sane  Cheesy) if anyone can add details it would be most useful.
Also some of the details could be slightly incorrect.

Ancient Ones
~~~~~~~~
Yig (1) (Played with Arnu its his fault we lost)
Nyarlathotep (1) (Won 6 Elder signs) Played with Oscar, Zarni, Arnu
Azathoth (3) (Lost 2) (Won 1 due to 6 elder signs)
Hastur (1) (Lost Act III KIY started)
Expansions
~~~~~~~

Dunwich (2)  (1st Zarni, Arnu - result cannot remember) (2nd Oscar, Zarni, Arnu - Won as Zarni & me kicked it back through the gate)
King In Yellow (2) (1st Arnu - Lost due to awaking of Azathoth)  (2nd Raiders III - Lost due to Act III)

Characters I've played.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Psycholigist
Scientist
Private Eye
Drifter
Gangster (My very first game been hooked ever since, maybe I should setup a Arkham Horror Annonymouse (AHA) meeting  Tongue)
+ someone from Dunwich set no idea who thou.
I have just complete and become the destoryer of worlds (again) for the Kingsport Expansion.
I needed to playtest it before Raiders 5 to see how the new board functions.
The rifts make an interesting addition to the game and force you to visit Kingsport (Unlike Dunwich where you can ignore the board all game if you wish).  Why visit Kingsport? Well apart from the nice people there are lots of good allies to pick up (but at a cost).  Also as you explore
the locations you automatically close parts of the rift, if you close 4 parts of a rift that is open it reset's, while a rift is open, it moves like a normal monster, however at the end of its movement a monster appears in the new location for the rift.
The rift starts to open with each mythos card phase and it depends on the monster movement text, as to which part of the rift starts to open.
I like the Kingsport Port expansion more than the Dunwich and planning to try again tomorrow with a Guardian in play to test how it works.
Results for the game:
================
Kingsports Expansion in use
Single Player game
2 Characters in play
Lily Chen - Martial Artist
Mandy Thompson - Researcher
Y'Golonac - Ancient One
8 - Gates Open to Final Battle
5 - Monsters in Arkham before going to Outskirts
6 - Monsters in Outskirts Limit
Mythos
Title - Dark Shapes at Dusk - Headline
Gate - Another Dimension
Ancient One awoke after 3 hours of play.
Stats taken before battle
Lily Chen - 6 Clues, 7 Monster Toughness, 1 Gate, Blessed
Mandy - 2 Clue, 3 Gate, 3 Monster Toughness, Blessed
4 Elders signs on board (3 by Mandy)
Terror Level 7
2 Rifts opened and where closed.
Characters entered combat with Y'Golonac.
All Characters used up there clue tokens during the combat
3rd Round of combat Mandy got Devoured.
4th Round of combat saw Lily perish.
3 Doom tokens left on track at the end.
I think I got adding Clue tokens to the combat slightly wrong for the rounding due to physical resistance, but Mandy did have skill +1 fight so she did get an extra dice to the roll per clue token which I forgot to allow for.
Kingsports Expansion in use
Single Player game
2 Characters in play
Joe Diamond - Private Eye
Michael McGlen - Gangster
Ithaqua - Ancient One
Visions of Hypnos - Guardian
8 - Gates Open to Final Battle
5 - Monsters in Arkham before going to Outskirts
6 - Monsters in Outskirts Limit
Mythos
Title - Curfew Enforced - Enviroment
Gate - Unknown Kadath
Ancient One awoke after 3 hours of play, due to movement of a rift.
Stats taken before battle
Joe Diamond - 0 Clues, 0 Monster Toughness, 1 Gate, Blessed, Ally - Foolish (5 Monster & 1 Gate used for blessing both Characters)
Michael McGlen - 0 Clue, 8 Monster Toughness, 3 Gate, Blessed, Ally - Thomas F. Malone
5 Elders signs on board (3 by Joe)
Terror Level 5
3 Rifts opened.
3 Gates left open on the board
Characters entered combat with Ithaqua.
Just at the end of the 3th round before Ithaqua could react to the attack Michael wasted him with the tommy gun.
Joe was rolling 10 dice (.45 auto) and Michael 11 in combat (Tommy Gun)
I ignored the rifts opening and didnt visit Kingsport at all in this game, all 3 rifts opened and released in totla 4 monsters (which did goto the outskirts).
But did cause the doom track to increase by 2 due to there movement ability.
The Guardian does make the clue tokens appear more and sometimes in stable locations so you dont need to panic about getting them quickly.
However in the 2 player game as there was an anyone time 6 gates open in Arkham most of the extra clue tokens didnt appear.
The Guardian will be very useful when going up against the more tougher Ancient Ones.
Overall Ithaqua is quite an easy Ancient one to go against.
I do prefer the Kingsport Expansion to the Dunwich in the way it plays and affects the main Arkham Horror game.
Only one downside to playing expansions is the time it takes to setup the game 1 Expansion adds about 20 mins for a single person to setup the game and shuffle in the cards etc.
