On the night after the riot having escaped the militia's round up we wake (ok so the bard woke up really, failed to even find the window with a spot obvious, and woke everyone else up) to find that a large fire had started near the lake.

A boarding house being used by the half-orc militia had caught fire. Leorn pointed out to the half-orc bucket chain that if they weren't careful they'd get clean!

Learning that the kitchen boy was still inside, Leorn and Paul R entered to try a rescue. Unable to move the trapping beam Xihn and Rogan Josh joined to help just as one of the two fire elementals took notice of us. Freeing the boy just in time we flee outside pursued by what we now see as a HUGE fire elemental.

With Xihn, Leorn and a half-orc guard fighting a holding action we slowly retreat towards a jetty on the lake hoping to dowse the HUGE F E. The invisible bard tries to keep up morale but despite Entwhistle and Rogan Josh's machine gun of arrows Xihn eventually goes ape and heads for the water straight through the artillery ranks. Boy that baboon can swim!

Bard finally tries the martial route when the returning spear as the HFE reaches the water and is unaffected! Due to it's reach of 15 feet the party are getting pretty low on hit points when in an unprecedented event Leorn hits two rounds in a row and deals exactly the right number of damage to take the HFE down.

Returning uphill to see where the other FE is we arrive just as it is defeated by the Blue Baron using a cold based spell. We feel we have to point out that his one was Tiny and our one was HUGE. I recommend the half-orc that fought with us for a promotion.

The next day as the spell types are resting. Paul R and the Bard meet the high priestess who says that the last person to see the Paladin was an artifact dealer.

They return after their visit with all the items brought back by said Paladin.
It included an ancient embossed tablet which told the story of some giant extraplanar beings who built a planar travel device using ogre slaves made strong with a special elixir. One the back is a map scratched in which is of a place near Red Gorge.

We hire a wagon and horses and head to Red Gorge. After much over the top sneakyness we attend the secret Chislers meeting and learn that Cauldron is likely to attack Red Gorge if we can't find the Paladin and get him to withdraw his challenge.

Generally it looks like the forces of chaos are engineering a crisis to destabilise the whole area. Possession of the Paladin seems to be part of the plan along with corruption of the leaders of Cauldron. I never knew that the forces of chaos were so organised!
