I speak only of the Evilerginger who is coming

Dace had formed his troops up in the fields of Mars just beyond the city limits of Nexus where it was traditional for the Mercenary companies to do so beyond the limits of the Law of Nexus against armies in the city having come as his company had in several armed bands from the compound on the edge of Firewarder.

He was proud of his troops and there discipline and drill where as good as any who worked the river province and marched north, east and south along the guild roads guarding their prodigious caravans. He had a Talon of medium infantry formed in a block twenty five wide and  five deep tower shields locked as if in battle array buff coats freshly oiled, helmets polished and spear points glittering in the early morning sun a fine sight .  Behind them where a Talon of archers in oiled buff jackets and steel skullcaps their terrible recurved bows unstrung and slung across their backs. to each side where his scout cavalry only a scale each but highly skilled their horse still and javelin quivers full his daughter sitting as ever at their head as he mother had done and wearing the same unsuitable Mandurkani leather breaches.

Behind him where his Cataphracts, his last throw of the dice, a scale  armoured in the manner of Mandurkani Knights with mailed riders and massive mailed horses armed with spears the size of dire lances in hand and maces hanging form their saddle horns and chopping swords across the horses rumps

Dace was proud his company would give his new employer a damned good show even if he said it himself

Miyoxi Tiholu rode out of Nexus onto the Field of Mars with his small company about him ambling along so as not to provoke the thing that made the rules in Nexus to pick up the escort he had hired for the long journey to  Cherak along the coast of Creation stopping to audit and inspect the Satrapies along the way and he hoped find some clue to what had happened to Fran's friend Bob that ill favoured day on his wife's estate outside Lords crossing.

With him rode Fran who he was fonder of than he had any right to be his children silent for once awed at Nexus and very pleased to have identical ponies their newly purchased servants and though he did not know who,  he was sure one of the silent agents of Looksy. He shuddered at the memory of Korush a cold hard killer who could be as silent and invisible as candle smoke in a fog. Still they might have their own plans but they where not his enemies and he could be said to owe them at least a little for providing him & all he loved, refuge after the calibration nightmare.

The servants where an odd lot all purchased from the Faerie market where those deemed useless are sold to those who trade for the fair folk, who are not fair nor good nor properly even of creation for they feed of the souls of such hopeless folk and would have all creation destroyed.

Miyoxi Tiholu  halted the column before the arrayed troops he had hired and he, Fran, Anarith  and his two Outcaste bodyguards rode to inspect them whilst his sons decided to race their new ponies around the huge marshalling ground. He stopped his small troop after one pass in front of  the arrayed men before the captain an elderly balding warrior in mail and plate his masked helmet cradled under his arm & spoke briefly before the whole formed into one column and rode of north wards towards the coast road, having paused only to gather in his sons and chide them for exhausting their mounts.

Fran stretched he legs and sniffed the sea breeze as she lead her horse to water in the small creek it was good to be on the road again after being stuck in that underground complex for so long.

To be continued.....
