Having given up Ifonaris as a dead loss on seeing that the town was now surrounded by a large rebel army, the company trudged north across the arid veldt of the southern Harbour head avoiding successfully any contact with the local nomadic pasturalists. However they did encounter an other small hunting party, of a mere twenty five men Cathak house troops lead by a young dynast of house Cathak  which agreed to escort them back to the nearest friendly town. Eventually arriving tired dusty & in some cases rather dejected at the southern most Guild trading post of Ruethna where they decided to rest & work out what to do next.

Ruethna superficially resembled Ifonaris in its design a mud brick walled town built around a water source, but it is several times its size and much more cosmopolitan as one would expect from its association with the Guild. Here the young Cathak arranged for the group to take over a small caravansary called the Swan a much less well appointed place than the Inn of the five  directions in Ifonaris indeed it offered little more than bed & board with all enquirys about baths and livery stables being directed to other establishments most notably the public bath house. A visit to this bath house quickly revealed that it was also the towns principle brothel.

Having settled in  at the Swan, & washed the dust and grime off the veldt of themselves the company where approached by a grim looking easterner apparently a mercenary soldier, something that there are an awful lot of in Ruethna as the Guild uses what by any standards are small armies to escort its great caravans. The man introduced himself politely in accented low realm as Alixdar Etreniankor & remarkably he announced calmly that he knew who the company where, naming them all & was expecting to meet them here.
