WWI miniatures suitable for M&B

I have been using 15mm figures for my games of Mud and Blood as they are the
correct scale for the ground scale & are inexpensive and relatively quick &  easy
to paint. The rules however work as well without changes for 25/28mm figures &
indeed there are a wider selection of these available. I will provide website
links & where I have seen the miniatures a review though please note all reviews
will be biased by my personal preferences.


15mm Manufactures

Minifigs
Nice figures if a bit elderly & with a rather limited selection of troop poses,
2-3 for most nations and eras of the war figures cover eastern front western
front & Palestine & the near east. also do vehicles. Only available new from
Calvalier books but Spirit games has the range in but can't fill gaps
which is a pity as this range is just about the only one who do British Rifle
Grenadiers in their trench raider packs.

Peter Pig

Range 16 & for later French & Belgian Range 8 (WWII) as the uniforms remained
very similar, nice figures a very good range of pose much better than the
Minifigs  but only cover western & eastern front & some post war conflicts
notably the Russian civil war & Russo Polish war also have vehicles both in
ranges 16 & 8 Good fast customer service with turn round less than a week

Irregular Miniatures
A useful range but variable in quality a bit with some easily as good as any ones
but others borderline and to be used only if you need to. They are useful in that
they have a wide variety of pose & head variants but its pot luck what you get &
I am not fond of their German gas masked heads in particular.

Blue Moon (via Old Glory)
Not seen these in the flesh & they only do later war (helmeted) figures, mostly
basic types such as riflemen & command though the Germans do get flame throwers.
They also do a range of vehicles which look nice in the pictures & cover gaps in
other peoples ranges, I am also told that they are noticeably taller than other rangers
though I have not seen them in the flesh yet.



Essex
Really nice models which Spirit games can get but for WWII mostly however will
supplement other ranges for those armies whose uniforms changed little between the
wars such as the French & Belgians

QRF
Very nice models with subtle detail so they paint well. I have only seen some of
their WWII figures they also do a range of vehicles & guns. They can suffer from a
lack of range of pose as most of the WWI packs seem to contain 8 identical poses.
I have found they can be slow to deliver during the show season.



25/28mm manufacturers

Renegade
Good range early war  less  so later when they only do British & Germans are a bit larger than some other 25/28mm figures  

Great war Miniatures
Some of my favourites in this scale do a good range both early & late if they have a fault its that they are cast in a hard pewter which tends to flash a bit around detailed parts such as rifle barrels & this can be difficult to clean up without causing damage.

Specialize in Palestine, the near east & Italian front

Brigade Miniatures
Only do early (1914) Belgians a nice range not quite as the Great war miniatures but fill the gaps in the latter range & add variety to the poses available & do such Belgium essentials as dog carts.
